Nanum E-Newsletter / April 2021
Dear Nanum Friends and Supporters,

The NY Nanum Foundation sends warm greetings to you as we pass the one-year mark of the Covid-19 pandemic and begin the second quarter of 2021, looking forward to wider distribution of the vaccine and the safe re-opening of more aspects of our daily lives.

With the distressing rise of anti-Asian racism in the US, even in our own backyards, the Nanum Foundation is proud of the work we do together with you to help our Asian communities.  We believe it is more important than ever to stand together to support the weak and powerless in our communities and we commit to look for ways we can be a beacon of encouragement to our Asian neighbors, friends and family.

In this newsletter, we are delighted to share with you our 2021 grant recipients and how your “Evening of Sharing” donations are assisting more than 200 Asian households suffering enormous challenges due to the pandemic.

We spent the early months of the year talking with many local organizations to learn which Asian populations most urgently need support.  Food insecurity and the inability of undocumented families to obtain governmental cash assistance rose to the top of the priority list.   In the end, we selected ten local non-profit organizations to receive our 2021 pandemic relief grants.  These extraordinary organizations have been steadfastly serving the local Asian community, quickly pivoting to meet the new and changing challenges the pandemic has posed, both to the ways they operate and the needs of the individuals they serve.

Most of the grants have been allocated to assist families and individuals who are in immediate need of financial and/or food support as a result of jobs lost to the pandemic, reduced working hours, or substantial illness or other medical conditions.  We are collaborating with our grant recipients to verify the needs of each benefit recipient, the majority of whom were referred by churches, donors and supporters, local business owners and other local non-profit organizations. We thank our partner organizations for their dedication and effort to ensure that our funds are ending up in the hands of those with dire unmet needs.
